Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and has approximately one million inhabitants. Prague is renowned for its historic center.
Among the cities of the Czech Republic, Prague has a privileged position as a metropolis, which it has been since the Middle Ages. Throughout its history it has played a representative role, yet it retains the image of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The artistic, social, cultural and political importance of Prague is evidenced both by its generous medieval foundation and by its extraordinary architectural wealth. A number of world-famous landmarks such as Prague Castle, Charles Bridge with its towers, National Theater, Rudolfinum, Cubist buildings and countless styles of churches and monasteries complement the younger residential, commercial and administrative buildings built over the centuries on both banks of the Vltava. Part of this world monument is the Průhonice Park and Chateau, a unique piece of garden and landscape art.
Most famous places in Prague:
One of the most famous locations in Prague include the Josefov Jewish Quarter, the oldest Jewish settlement in Europe, with its beautiful buildings, a Jewish cemetery, a museum and six synagogues.
In the Lesser Town, just below Prague Castle, the Church of St. Nicholas proudly rises. It is a completely unforgettable temple, a Baroque pearl with a twenty-meter-high dome, whose internal height is almost 57 meters, making it the highest Prague interior ever.
Opposite Prague Castle, on the other side of the Vltava River, is one of the most famous and beautiful places in Prague. The original seat of the kings, “Vyšehrad”, offers one of the most beautiful views of Prague. To this day there are many monuments. The most important are the Basilica of St. Peter and the Vyšehrad Cemetery, where the greatest Czech personalities are buried.
The Žižkov Tower is one of Prague’s controversial buildings. Some will not leave the thread on it and others will admire it, but you shouldn’t miss it. The television transmitter with a height of 216 meters is the largest building in Prague and also the highest tower with a viewing platform in the Czech Republic. In addition to the unique view of the whole of Prague, it also contain a unique restaurant and hotel.
